Firmographics
Descriptive facts about a company, such as its size, industry, location, revenue band and ownership.
What it means
Firmographics describe organizations the way demographics describe people. Typical fields include employee count, headquarters location, industry code, revenue range, legal form and parent company. Teams use them to filter target accounts, group customers, and compare companies on a common basis. They also help when a sales team needs to explain why one account was chosen over another.
Firmographic data comes from filings, registries, company websites and commercial data providers. Its weak point is freshness. Revenue bands and headcounts can go stale quickly, and providers do not always agree. When a decision depends on a firmographic field, check its source and date first, and use industry classification consistently across tools. A short note in the CRM on where each field came from saves time later.
